Technologist - Pasture Evaluation and Breeding - VistaMilk (Temporary) (Ref: 173)
The appointee will assist with the development of new Clover profit index and in the redevelopment of the Pasture Profit Index.
These developments will require the generation of plot grazing studies for both species.
It will also require the interrogation of datasets from the Department of Agriculture Food and the Marine.
It will also involve analysis of on farm grass variety evaluation data from Pasturebase Ireland.
The appointee will liaise daily with commercial grassland farmers to ensure the capture of high quality data electronically through the application of best grassland management technologies.
To assist in the development of a new Clover Profit Index for Irish grassland based systems.
To continue to develop the Teagasc Pasture Profit Index and develop new traits for this index.
Supervision and execution of grazing and plot research studies.
Data analysis of both grazing and plot studies.
Assist in the execution of other grassland research experiments and on farm grassland research when required.
Candidates must have a Level 8 degree in Agricultural Science or a related discipline.
A postgraduate degree and/or research experience in Grassland Science would be a distinct advantage.
