KTP Associate - Additive Manufacturing Materials Scientist (Polymers)

The College wishes to recruit a Materials Scientist for a unique and exciting opportunity to work as the KTP Associate on a Knowledge Transfer Partnership (KTP) between the University of Exeter and Sartorius Stedim Lab Ltd. The post is available immediately, on a 2-year fixed term basis.

Summary of the role/position:

Sartorius Stedim Lab Limited (SSL) is a UK wholly owned subsidiary of Sartorius Stedim Biotech GmbH, helping customers produce drugs safely, quickly and economically (cell cultivation, fermentation, filtration, purification and fluid management). SSL's principal product range is single use laboratory disposables including centrifugal concentrators, utilising ultra-filtration membrane technology.

This novel technology project, funded by a Knowledge Transfer Partnership (KTP), will develop and optimise specific polymeric materials for Additive Manufacturing (AM) for the biopharma industry. You will work with state of the art AM systems and processes to ensure that project deliverables are relevant and of high value to the industrial sector.

Applicants will have a materials science background, preferably with a masters' level qualification in the subject or a very good first degree. They must also be a self-starter, be happy to work alone and as part of an embedded team and have excellent communication skills. Candidates should be able to demonstrate dedication, a flexible approach and strong attention to detail.

Experience and knowledge of conducting materials focussed projects in an industrial and/or research-based environment is essential. Applicants must also have demonstrable experience of materials processing, ideally powder bed additive manufacturing. Previous experience of commercial product development, working with materials standards and certification of materials in the Biopharma industry would be beneficial.

The Associate must have an aptitude for the commercial aspects of the work being undertaken, and be keen to apply their expertise to produce marketable products that meet customer requirements. Interest and enthusiasm for working with Sartorius Stedim in the Biopharma industry is essential.

The position includes a 4,000 pounds personal development budget as well as a two-week residential training course at Ashorne Hill.

You will be employed by the University of Exeter, but will be based at Sartorius Stedim Lab Ltd in Stonehouse, Gloucestershire. Regular travel between the two locations will be required.
