Full job title - Senior Research Associate / Bristol City Council Researcher-in-Residence for Healthier Urban Development
Job number - ACAD104408
Division/School - Bristol Medical School
Contract type - Open Ended
Working pattern - Full time
Salary - £38,017-£42,792 per annum
Closing date for applications - 26th February 2020

Bristol City Council and University of Bristolís Population Health Sciences department are seeking to appoint a Researcher-in-Residence to help shape Bristolís built environment planning, development and management to transform the city populationís physical and mental health.

You will join a large research consortium - funded through the UK Prevention Research Partnership (administered by the Medical Research Council) - whose aim is to reduce the burden of Non-Communicable Diseases linked to the built environment through the transformation of the urban planning and development systems across the UK.

You will be supervised by the Director for Economy of Place, working closely with academic leads at the University of Bristol.

The role demands a special blend of skills and experience that combines policy-development, networking, coalition-building with academic, analytical, technical and methodological expertise.

The 5-year TRU3D project - Tackling the Root Causes Upstream of Unhealthy Urban Development - started in October 2019 and involves collaboration across a wide range of disciplines in addition to public health.

A key part of the approach is the engagement with individuals who have material influence over the quality of the urban environment, particularly those in the public and private sectors in control of land, finance, delivery, planning permission and core policy/legislation involved in the Bristol and Greater Manchester case study areas.

You will take a leading role in harnessing new academic evidence emanating from the project and working in co-production with project partners to convert insights into tangible place-specific activity within the Council.

To do this you will need comprehensive knowledge of urban development processes, corporate and political governance and the ability to engage with critical actors from different spheres.

The position is offered on a full time, open ended contract basis with funding confirmed until 30 September 2024.
