Microbiological Technician (Temporary) - (Ref: 9)
The technician will work as part of a team based in the Biosciences Department located in Teagasc Food Research Centre, Moorepark, Fermoy, Co. Cork.
Their principal responsibility will be the phenotypic and genotypic characterisation of putative probiotic strains and characterisation of their technologocal robustness and suitability.
They will also be required to engage with stakeholders throughout the project at regular team meetings and to provide input into the final report.
Implement classical microbiological techniques for bacterial quantification and purification.
Use molecular-based techniques such as PCR and DNA sequencing to identify and differentiate bacteria of interest from complex backgrounds.
Characterisation of bacterial strains of putative probiotic potential through phenotypic assessment.
Whole genome sequencing of strains of interest plus assembly and annotation of said genomes.
Candidates must have a Level 6 in Nutrition, Microbiology, Biochemistry or a related discipline.
A Level 7/8 qualification in Microbiology would be a distinct advantage.
