Professorship - Music Pedagogy

The Faculty of Social Sciences and Cultural Studies invites applications for a
W3 Professorship in Music Pedagogy as of now.

Reference is made to 61 Para. 7 Hessian Higher Education Act (HHG) and to conditions of employment based on 62 HHG.

The professorship shall represent the whole spectrum of music pedagogy in terms of research and education. A focus here is on actual music, especially popular music and contemporary art music. Teaching assignments include courses in BA and MA degree programs (major and minor degrees) and in teacher training degree programs for primary and secondary school education. In addition to student supervision (final dissertations, doctoral theses), the prospective candidate will take part in the admission tests for the teacher training degree programs. In addition to the supervision of theses and doctorates, you will also take the admission exams for teacher-curricula. Furthermore, the prospective candidate should be willing to engage in the support of early career researchers (doctoral and post-doctoral students) notably in cooperation with the Graduate Centers of Justus-Liebig-University Giessen (JLU). The willingness for interdisciplinary cooperation in the area of teacher training (especially for cooperation with the three other basic sciences political science, psychology, sociology and the subject didactics) and to co-operation in the center for teacher education as well as in the field of offensive teacher training (GOL) and the Graduate Centers, the Graduate Center for Social Sciences, Economics and Law (GGS) and the Graduate Center for Cultural Studies (GGK) / International Graduate Center for the Study of Culture (GCSC), is required. The professorship should actively participate in the further development of the JLU's internationalization strategy.

A qualified doctorate as well as additional scientific achievements in the sense of relevant research work also internationally, in addition publications in designated national and international journals as well as successes in independent acquisition and management third-party funded projects (preferably DFG) are required. The successful candidate is also expected to demonstrate the ability to theoretically reflect on the process of communicating music. Moreover, sensitivity and professional appreciation is provided for the gender issue in research and teaching.

In accordance with 62 Para. 4 HHG, proof three years of practical experience in school teaching is regarded as a requirement for a position with responsibilities concerning school pedagogy, teaching methodology or educational sciences.
