Contract Research Officer – Food and Health (Ref: CRO/MASTER/MP/0119) (Externally Funded Non Grant-in-Aid)

Basic Function:

The successful candidate will be involved in supporting Teagasc’s co-ordination of the MASTER project and will play a significant role in the management of this project.

The person recruited will have exceptional writing skills and be a good communicator with a capacity to organise, manage and prioritise a large workload, often working to tight deadlines.

They will also be required to have an understanding of microbiome research, intellectual property generation and protection.

Main Duties and Responsibilities:

• Provide day to day support to the MASTER co-ordinator and Teagasc-associated team members.
• Contribute to the overall management of the MASTER project including associated partners (research organisations and industries), EU project officers and other stakeholders.
• Assist in the coordination, writing and submission of reports.
• Assist in the dissemination and exploitation of the results of the research through publication in high impact journals, education and public engagement and other appropriate routes.
• Work with the post-doctoral scientists on site to generate results.
• Provide traceability in relation to Intellectual Property Protection.
• Develop strategies for optimized method development.
• Assist Teagasc in meeting the commitments of the Quality Customer Service charter and action plan.
• Actively participate in the annual business planning and Performance Management Development System (PMDS) processes.

Person Specification


• Candidates must have an honours Level 8 degree in microbiology or a related discipline.


• A postgraduate degree and/or research experience in microbiology would be a distinct advantage.
• Full Driving Licence.
