The Faculty of Medicine of the Justus-Liebig-University Giessen (JLU) and the University Hospital of Giessen and Marburg GmbH (UKGM), Giessen Campus, invite applications for a
W3 Professorship in Otorhinolaryngology
as of now.
Reference is made to § 61 Para. 7 of the Hessian Higher Education Act (HHG), and to conditions of employment based on § 62 HHG. Proficient knowledge of German is expected.
The future incumbent will assume leadership of the Clinic for Otorhinolaryngology. The duties of the successful candidate will include representation of the whole scope of the subject in teaching, research and patient care. The professorship-related tasks in health care are regulated by the University Hospital.
A close cooperation in the cross-departmental research focus of targeted tumour therapies with connection to the already existing oncological methodology platforms (molecular genetics / pathology) is expected. The focus is in the surgical treatment of ear, nose and throat diseases, especially in the treatment of head and neck tumours and in laryngology. Furthermore, active participation in the multi-site Cochlear Implant Centre Mittelhessen is indispensable.
Oncological networking also includes structured cooperation with bioinformatics and in the context of the MIRACUM consortium in the field of head and neck tumours. The successful candidate should actively support the establishment of a joint oncological top center at the Giessen and Marburg sites.
Successes in the independent acquisition of external funding for projects (preferably from the German Research Foundation DFG) are required. The applicant should become actively involved in existing collaborative projects and be responsible for organizing research projects and new collaborative associations and national and international networks. Cooperation in the International Giessen Graduate Centre for the Life Sciences (GGL) is expected.
An integration in one of the research areas of the faculty and the university - oncology and tumor biology, cardiopulmonary system, infection, inflammation and immunity as well as the university's priorities of reproduction and repair / regeneration - is desirable.
The universities of Giessen and Marburg and the University of Applied Sciences in Central Hessen are working together in a research alliance (Research Campus of Central Hessen) as a structured cooperation based on coordinated priorities. It is expected that the applicant shows cooperativeness to university and department-wide collaborative projects. In particular, cross university/hospital and patient-oriented clinical research and the participation in joint clinical studies is expected.
Gender issues should be integrated into the professorship’s research and teaching agenda.
The following qualifications are required: Full university education in medicine, the required qualification for scientific work, usually proven by a doctorate with merit and other additional
pertinent academic achievements (e.g. habilitation in Otorhinolaryngology and internationally visible specialist publications). Furthermore, experience and success in obtaining extramural funding (especially at the German Research Foundation DFG) is required. Publications in designated national and international journals are required.
Experience in the field of hospital management is also required. Due to the focus of the subject, a corresponding proven expertise is required in the above-mentioned areas. In addition, the successful candidate should have relevant experience in phase II-IV clinical trials in the area of Ear-Nose-Throat-specific oncology. The successful candidate should have international recognition in his/her specialization and should have extensive experience in translational research.
In addition, proof of special pedagogical aptitude as a qualification is required to fully represent the subject in academic teaching.
The specification for Otorhinolaryngology is required as well as the foundations for the acquisition of the corresponding advanced training authorization. Additional titles for plastic surgery and drug tumour therapy are desirable.
