Bioinformatician/Postdoctoral Research Associate in Virus-Host Interactions

The MRC-University of Glasgow Centre for Virus Research (CVR) is seeking a bioinformatician to be embedded in a research group dedicated to the study of viral pathogenesis. The post will play a key role in a Wellcome-Trust funded programme which aims to identify virus and host factors determining susceptibility and resilience to virus infection. The programme as a whole bridges in silico, in vitro and in vivo experiments exploring different facets of virus-host interactions using bluetongue as a naturally occurring model of arbovirus infection (see Melzi et al, PNAS, 113(41):E6238-E6247; Shaw et al PLoS Biology 15(12):e2004086).

The CVR is a unique international research centre with a critical mass of researchers entirely dedicated to the study of human and animal viral diseases (www.cvr.ac.uk; www.facebook.com/centreforvirusresearch). The CVRís collegiate and collaborative environment fosters a broad research portfolio. The successful applicant will also interact within the CVR with a critical mass of researchers entirely dedicated to Virus Genomics and Bioinformatics, including the OIE Collaborating Centre in Virus Genomics and Bioinformatics (www.bioinformatics.cvr.ac.uk). Bioinformatics at the CVR spans novel analytical approaches, high throughput sequencing, and training.

The Laboratory is based in the Sir Michael Stoker Building in a beautiful park in the Garscube Estate in Glasgow, Scotlandís largest city and the fourth largest in the UK (www.lonelyplanet.com/scotland/glasgow). Glasgow is a cultural city with a large selection of museums, theatres, live music venues and itís the home of the Scottish Opera, the Scottish Ballet, the Royal Scottish National Orchestra and other arts organisations. Glasgow is surrounded by beautiful countryside including the stunning Loch Lomond and the Trossachs National Park (www.lochlomond-trossachs.org/).

The position is available for 3 years in the first instance and is funded by the Wellcome Trust. Appointment will be at Grade 7. Standard Terms & Conditions

Salary will be on the University's Research and Teaching Grade, level 7, £35,210 - £39,610 per annum.

This post is full time for three years in the first instance.

New entrants to the University will be required to serve a probationary period of 6 months.

The successful applicant will be eligible to join the Universities' Superannuation Scheme. Further information regarding the scheme is available from the Superannuation Officer, who is also prepared to advise on questions relating to the transfer of Superannuation benefits.

All research and related activities, including grants, donations, clinical trials, contract research, consultancy and commercialisation are required to be managed through the University's relevant processes (e.g. contractual and financial), in accordance with the University Court's policies.
