Contract Technician - Biological Activities

Contract Technician (Ref: CT/BM3/AT/0818) (Externally Funded Non Grant-in-Aid)

Basic Function:
The successful candidate will work on a SFI funded Bioeconomy Research Centre (BEACON). Technician will carry out routine analysis of research samples for a range of biological activities for phytopharma, cosmeceutical, nutraceutical or functional food applications.

Main Duties and Responsibilities:
•To carry out biological and chemical testing and analysis of marine algal extracts in liquid and powder forms
•To assist Teagasc in meeting the commitments of the Quality Customer Service charter and action plan.
•To actively participate in the annual business planning and Performance Management Development System (PMDS) processes.
•Fully co-operate with the provisions made for ensuring the health, safety and welfare of themselves, fellow staff and non-Teagasc staff and co-operate with management in enabling Teagasc to comply with legal obligations. This includes full compliance with the responsibilities outlined in the Safety Statement.
•Any other duties as may be assigned from time to time

Person Specification

Essential
Candidates must have a Level 6 qualification in a Biological or Chemical Science discipline or a related discipline.

Desirable
A Level 7 qualification in Science would be a distinct advantage
