The Faculty of Social Sciences and Cultural Studies invites applications for a
W3 Professorship in Educational Sciences
with a focus on Vocational Education
as of April 1st, 2019
Reference is made to § 61 Para. 7 Hessian Higher Education Act (HHG) and to conditions of employment based on § 62 HHG. Proficient knowledge of German is expected.
The professorship shall represent the field of expertise to the fullest extent in terms of research and education.
Experience of empirical pedagogical and interdisciplinary research in the field of vocational education studies is essential, as is experience in teacher training and the didactics of vocational education. A research focus in at least two of the following areas is desirable: personal services, the transition to vocational education, international comparative research on vocational education, support for disadvantaged groups, the transformation of work and work environments, general didactics of vocational education, and diversity. An outstanding doctoral thesis and also additional academic achievements are a prerequisite. Candidates must have published their work in prominent national and international journals. They must also have a track record of successful research grant applications and of managing third-party funded research projects (preferably those funded by the German Research Foundation) independently. Tasks include responsibility for the BA and MA degree programmes "Berufliche und Betriebliche Bildung" and for the content of the programme "Didaktik der Arbeitslehre". The successful candidate is expected to play an active role in collaborating with the international partners of the Justus Liebig University Gießen (JLU), and to draw on their existing contacts abroad to maintain the international profile of the department. An awareness, knowledge and appreciation of gender and diversity issues in research and teaching are required.
In accordance with § 62 Para. 4 HHG, proof of three years of practical experience in school teaching is regarded a requirement for a position with responsibilities concerning school pedagogy, teaching methodology or educational sciences.
