This is a new Clinical Senior Lecturer Post (80:20 academic/clinical) based at the MRC-University of Glasgow Centre for Virus Research (CVR) with the option for sessions in infectious diseases inpatient and outpatient care. The postholder will have direct responsibility for developing and leading research programmes bridging the activities and interests of the CVR with international research centres in sub-Saharan Africa and the NHS.
The CVR (www.cvr.ac.uk) was formed in 2010 as a partnership between the Medical Research Council and the University of Glasgow, and is home to the UK’s largest grouping of human and veterinary virologists. Its mission is to carry out multi-disciplinary research on viruses and viral diseases, translating the knowledge gained for the improvement of health and benefit of society. The CVR’s collegiate and collaborative environment fosters a broad research portfolio. Research at the CVR spans molecular, structural and cellular levels, through to the individual host and affected population, integrating molecular and structural virology, cell biology, pathogenesis, epidemiology, mathematical modelling, viral genomics and bioinformatics. The CVR is embedded within the Institute of Infection, Immunity and Inflammation within the College of Medical, Veterinary and Life Sciences (MVLS) at the University of Glasgow, which provides excellent research opportunities to foster multi-disciplinary collaborative projects. There are established international links with research centres in Malawi, the Gambia and Uganda.
The successful candidate will be expected to be in possession of (or within 6 months of) a CCT (or equivalent) in Infectious Diseases and/or Virology. Given the nature of the post the appointee will be expected to have a strong track record in both clinical and translational research and in international health research.
