The Faculty of Medicine and the University Hospital of Giessen and Marburg GmbH, Giessen Campus, invite applications for a

W3 Professorship for Conservative Dentistry and Endodontics


to be appointed as soon as possible. Reference is made to § 61 Hessisches Hochschulgesetz (HHG) and to the conditions of employment based on § 62 HHG. Proficient knowledge of the German language is expected.

The professorship involves heading the Polyclinic of the same name. The tasks of the future position holder include the competent representation of the field in research, teaching and medical services in its full breadth, whereas corresponding leadership experience is expected. The tasks associated with the professorship in the field of medical services are defined by the University Clinic.

The Center for Dental, Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery has independent departments for parodontics, paedodontics, maxillo-facial surgery, orthodontics and prosthodontics. The course work for the entire field of conservative dentistry is jointly performed by the professors of the conservative dentistry field study group.

The position holder should be competent in the research field of cariology and hard dental substances/ endodontics through internationally recognized scientific achievements. An integration into the existing focuses of the center (interfacial interaction and oral health) and into the department’s existing core areas - cardiopulmonary system, infection, inflammation and immunity, as well as reproduction and reparation/regeneration - is expected. The applicant should make active contributions within existing research networks, as well as independently organize research projects and new associations, by means of national and international networking. Collaboration with the Giessen Graduate Center for the Life Sciences [Gießener Graduiertenzentrum Lebenswissenschaften (GGL)] is expected.

The universities Giessen and Marburg, as well as the Technical University Middle Hesse cooperate within the scope of the Research Campus Middle Hesse. In this context, the medical departments of Giessen and Marburg practice a structured cooperation on the basis of coordinated focuses. The applicants are expected to be willing to cooperate and work on interdisciplinary collaborative projects across universities. In particular, cross university/hospital patient-oriented clinical research and the participation in joint clinical studies is expected.

Expected qualifications include, in addition to a degree in dentistry, outstanding clinical expertise in the field of conservative dentistry, a doctorate with merit, relevant additional scientific accomplishments (e.g. habilitation and internationally visible subject-specific publications), as well as experience and success in acquiring outside funding and, in addition, proof of particular pedagogic aptitude with great engagement is expected, as a required qualification to represent the specialist field in its full depth in academic teaching. Integration of gender aspects in the field of research and teaching is explicitly desired.
