The Faculty of Social Sciences and Cultural Studies invites applications for a

W1 Professorship in Didactics of Social Sciences

provisionally limited to a period of six years as of the earliest possible date. Reference is made to § 64, sections 3 and 4 Hessisches Hochschulgesetz (HHG).
In reference to § 64, section 3 Hessisches Hochschulgesetz (HHG), it is required that candidates did not obtain their PhD degree at Justus Liebig University Giessen (JLU). The duration of the scientific activity after the acquisition of the PhD degree may not exceed four years. In case of eligibility, which will be evaluated according to § 64, section 2 HHG, a permanent W2 Professorship will be offered subsequently.

Democratic Education and Political Education in schools as well as extracurricular fields of youth and adult education represent the scope of activity of teaching and research in this position.

Teaching duties will involve taking part in the specialist subject of “politics and economy”. Research will address processes of developing individual political decision-making and evaluation competencies both within school and in extracurricular settings. Additionally, establishing references towards other didactics and towards research questions in sociological, political and educational sciences are expected.

Applicants are expected to show a relevant research profile. Pertinent, preferably international publications in designated scientific journals and experience in independent and successful acquisition of external funding are also expected from applicants.

Furthermore, it is expected that the holder of this professorship takes active part in the development of competencies of young researchers, also within the scope of the Graduate Centers “Graduate Center for the Cultural Studies Giessen” (Gießener Graduiertenzentrum Kulturwissenschaften, GGK), the International Graduate Centre for the Study of Culture (GCSC) and/or the “Graduate Center for Social Studies, Economy and Law” (Gießener Graduiertenzentrum Sozial-, Wirtschafts- und Rechtswissenschaften, GGS). The applicant will moreover formulate perspectives for collaboration with the “Center for Media and Interactivity” (Zentrum für Medien und Interaktivität, ZMI). Integrating gender aspects into his/her research and teaching activities is explicitly encouraged. The ability to teach in English is also appreciated.

Based on § 62, section 4 HHG, candidates should have a record of three years of school teaching or equivalent practical experience.
