The Faculty of Medicine and the University Hospital of Giessen and Marburg GmbH, Giessen Campus, invites applications for a

W3 Professorship for Gynecology

with focal points of Obstetrics and Reproductive Medicine

as of now. Reference is made to § 61 section 7 Hessisches Hochschulgesetz (HHG) and to the conditions of employment based on § 62 HHG. Proficient knowledge of German is expected.

The professorship is associated with the position as Head of the clinic for Gynecology and Obstetrics. The successful candidate will be in charge of representing the entire breadth and depth of the subject in research, teaching and patient care. The applicant should be capable of representing the subject, covering all aspects of the field and may have management experience. The responsibilities arising from activities in patient treatment will be regulated by a contract with the University Hospital of Giessen and Marburg (UKGM) GmbH.

The focal point of obstetrics with research priority in prenatal diagnostics and therapy as well as perinatology is to be further advanced interdisciplinary in the design of a maternal-fetal medicine unit. Future focal points will include an interdisciplinary extension of minimal-invasive gynecologic surgery. In the field of Gynecologic Oncology, close cooperation with the certified breast center of the University of Marburg will be expected. The research activities in the field of reproductive medicine are anchored in the Hessian Center for Reproductive Medicine. The successful candidate is expected to extend them even further according to the above mentioned cooperation.

The successful candidate should have international recognition in those fields. Cooperation in the context of the existing main research areas of the faculty – Cardiopulmonary Medicine, Infectious Diseases and Immunology, Reproductive Medicine, Regeneration – is desired. The successful candidate should become actively involved in established research collaborations and independently organize research projects as well as new national and international networks. In addition, the candidate should participate in the Giessen Graduate School for the Life Sciences (GGL).

The universities of Giessen and Marburg and the University of Applied Sciences are working together in a research alliance (research Campus Central Hesse) as a structured cooperation based on coordinated priorities. It is expected, that the applicant shows cooperativeness to university and department-wide collaborative projects, particularly with participation in cross-site patient-oriented clinical research and in clinical joint studies.

The following qualifications are required: Full university education in Medicine, a doctorate with merit and outstanding scientific achievements (e. g. habilitation and international recognized special-subject publications) as well as experience and success in attracting external funding. Furthermore, the applicant should demonstrate exceptional skills in teaching, covering all aspects of the discipline in its broadness. A professional certificate for Gynecology and Obstetrics with the additional qualifications are demanded – as well as the basics for getting the advanced training authorization in this subject. Gender issues should explicitly be integrated in the Professorship’s research and teaching agenda.
